Zonta Mission Statement

DISTRICT 7
AREA 3
WAVING USA FLAG

General Information

The Zonta Club of St Cloud places a local emphasis on education of women and improving the lives of women in our community.  To that end, we provide local scholarships as well as financial support to two local agencies that are all about supporting women:  Journey Home and Anna Marie's.  We also provide support for various literacy endeavors that come up - that can range from providing funding to being a pen pal to an elementary school student.
To raise funds for these efforts, our club has three major fundraisers each year.

In September, we host a Golf Tournament called "Diamonds in the Rough".   This is a fun (not serious) golf tournament with a jewelry show, luncheon, silent auction and lots of prizes for the participants.

In November, we put on our "Christmas House" where decorators from the area decorate a selected house for Christmas and, for a donation, people tour the house both to look at a beautiful house AND get idea for their own decorating.

In January, we have a purely service function - we bus dishes for the American Federation of the Blind Spaghetti Fundraiser.  We've been doing this for more than 20 years!

In May, we have our Flower Sale.  We sell coupons that are redeemable at a local greenhouse.  In exchange for some volunteering gardening on our part, we get to keep part of the proceeds from the plant sales!

Naturally, these projects take a lot of time and work.  But the rewards are terrific!!

Our Board of Directors meets the First Thursday of every month (except July - we take that month off!)  Our members are expected to attend our Business meeting on the 2nd Thursday of each month (September thru May) and our Program meetings the 4th Thursday of each month (September thru May) -- December's program meeting tends to be a party -- after all, it is the Holidays!!

Of course, we are not just a local Club.  The Zonta Club of St Cloud is part of an international organization that spans 67 countries with over 1,206 clubs and 33,000 members.  Each individual club is grouped into an "Area" which is a geographical grouping of clubs.  Our Area happens to include all of Minnesota and North Dakota.  Each Area has an annual meeting of the clubs- both to share information and to network - and, of course, have fun!.
Each Area, in turn, is assigned to a "District".  Again, this is a geographical jurisdiction.  Some District's encompass entire countries - some more than one country.  Our Area (Area 3) is part of District 7 which encompasses, Minnesota, North and South Dakota, Iowa, Missouri and Nebraska.  Again, each District has an annual meeting - usually in the Fall.
Then, every other year, there is an International Convention where Zontians from around the world gather to do the business of the Organization, meet one another, and have fun!  The Convention is in a different District each time.  The last Convention was in 2008 in Rotterdam, Netherlands with an attendance of over 2,000 Zontians.  In 2010, the Convention will be in San Antonio, Texas.

If you would like more information, drop a line to our membership chair - come to a meeting and meet us!  We are a busy and fun group.
