CELEBRATIONS

 

Zonta Member, Tara L. Harl, Assistant Professor of Aviation at SCSU, received the Miller Teacher Scholar Award for year 2007; one of only two to receive it.

Tara received the award for the national initiative she developed at SCSU which is now being adopted at 4 other collegiate aviation programs nationwide.

Congratulations Tara!

HERBERGER’S COMMUNITY DAY FUNDRAISER FOR ZONTA

This year Zonta is participating in Herberger's Community Day Fundraiser. We are selling coupon booklets for $5.00 with 100% of the profits remaining with Zonta. For $5.00 you receive a coupon good for $10.00 off an item of $10.00 or more at Herberger’s as well as additional coupons for 20% off apparel, footwear, jewelry, etc. The coupons can be used on Community Day which is November 10, 2007. If anyone is interested in selling booklets they can be obtained from LeAnne Miller. This is a great fundraising opportunity for our organization. We encourage all of you to participate.

Golf Outing and Jewelry Fashion Show

September 14, 2007

Rich Spring Golf Course

 

Join us for a day of fun while raising money to support causes to advance the status of women!  The nine hole golf scramble will be followed by lunch, a jewelry fashion show and silent auction.  The jewelry fashion show will feature Bachman's Jewelry, Gordon's Jewelry, J. F. Kruse Jewelers and Schepers Jewelers.  Entry fee for golf, cart and lunch is $50 or join us for lunch and the jewelry fashion show for $30.  Silent auction items to date include a 3 day vacation get away with lodging and meals at Angle Inn Lodge, Minnesota Twins tickets, Minnesota Wild tickets, SCSU Husky hockey tickets, 2 hours of design consultation, an office chair, pampering baskets, and  a Les Kouba signed artists print "It All Started Here".  We are still accepting reservations, sponsorships, door prizes and items to include in goodie bags for each person.  There is still time to be part of this event.  Contact Nancy Fischer at 253-4050 or Debbie Grant at 685-8609.

 

ZONTA CLUB’S 2007 CHRISTMAS HOUSE UPDATE

This year’s Christmas House is an Executive Showcase home for Villages of Creekside located at 3232 Old Stone Way in Sauk Rapids. The home is fully furnished with 18 decorator spaces such as a home theater, poker table area, upstairs library nook and a beautiful main level entertaining area. The home is featured in one of the MCI ads that run on Charter cable TV. Lori is working to secure decorators for all the spaces with Joy sending out the sponsor letters. The developer/realtor is willing to help with publicity. Join Zonta Christmas House coordinators, Lori and Joy, in their excitement for Christmas House 2007!

ANNA MARIE’S FUNDRAISING EVENTS

Anna Marie’s is fund raising this fall. First, we have Coupon Books with over 700 coupons (over $6,000 in savings) for the St Cloud area—good for one year. The books sell for $25 each.  Anna Marie’s receives $9-10 of the sale amount. I will bring 6 Coupon Books to the Sept 13th Zonta business meeting, just in case any of you would like to buy one.

Anna Marie’s online auction Purses For A Purpose will run from October 15-29, 2007 during Domestic Violence Awareness Month.  These are all home-made purses…quilted ones…felted ones…you name it! Many of the purses will be on display at the Women’s Showcase. If you sew and want to make a purse to donate, you are welcome to do this! Online bidders will also be voting for the best purses. Prize to the winner. The on-line bidding takes place at the following website: www.annamaries.org.

JOURNEY HOME IS ON THE MOVE

Journey Home is moving to our new location officially on 9/17!  Waiting to determine when we move has been like waiting for the arrival of a baby. And there have been lots of labor pains through the whole process.

So now that we know the official moving date, we are having an open house before we move our clients into the building.  It will be on Sept. 13, 2007 from 3-5:30 pm.  Our new address is 1485 10th Ave NE, Sauk Rapids, MN 56379.   You can either google the address or call Journey Home (259-9149) for directions.

We would love to have Zonta represented at the open house and are excited to show you around our new building!

Consent Agenda Items

· Minutes:

There were no questions or changes to the Board Minutes of 5/3/07 meeting. Stephanie made a motion to accept the 5/3/07 Board Minutes and Lori seconded the motion.

· Treasurer’s Report:

Treasurers Report of 7/31/07 was accepted. Susan Voeltz made a motion to accept the 7/31/07 Treasurer Report and CarolRae seconded the motion.

Correspondence

Catholic Charities asked if our club would be interested participating in the following; meals on heals, visit – play cards, have lunch or sponsor to help them fund lunch’s for the elderly. The group agreed that this does not apply to Zonta’s mission.

ARC asked for a donation towards autistic. The group agreed that this does not apply to Zonta’s mission.

Other/Smart Girls Program received a donation of $500.00 in 2005 from our club, they are requesting another donation of $500.00, due to the lack of funds, and our club will donate $250.00 to the Smart Girls Program. Stephanie made the motion, Lori R. seconded this motion.

Committees

· Finance Mary Nimmerfroh –

Mary is still very busy attending to family matters, in her absence a temporary chair person is needed to perform the duties in putting together the budget.

· Membership: Stephanie Jussila –

1. Steph recommend repeating our club social that was held at the Martini Bar, to twice a year. The idea was agreed on by the group.

· Service:

1. Members filled the positions needed for our scholarship programs.

2. Herberger’s Event – LeAnne Miller is selling coupon pamphlets at $5.00 each (Zonta takes 100% of the $5.00!!). The coupons in the pamphlets are good for the store sale on November 10th.

3. Flower Sale Report; 464 tickets sold valued at $4,176

4. Golf Outing; Nancy and Deb handed out their information, there are many sponsors and donations this year – with every year it looks to be a greater success!!!

5. Christmas House;

The house for this years Event is at the Villages of Creek Side – the house is not occupied, but totally furnished – it’s a larger home valued at $1.4 Million.

Letters are sent to all local decorators.

Joy will bring the sign up sheet for all members to volunteer their time in helping out with our 2007 Christmas House Event.

Last year there were 2,500 tickets printed. The Board is contemplating printing more tickets as there will be much more advertising and promoting for this year’s home.

District 7 Conference Oct. 5 – 7, 2007 in Minneapolis

Monthly Program Sponsors

- Each Program Meeting (once a month) has a theme that is associated with Zonta interests – members are needed to obtain sponsors/speakers.

Meeting Location discussion

The Ground Round has new ownership – we are currently working with them to keep our meetings held at the Ground Round. Our meetings will be held here until further notice.

Website discussion

- With Mary absent our club needs to pursue other avenues for website service- looking into local professional companies may be an option- this will be discussed further.

LeAnne Miller made the motion to adjourn our 9/06/07 meeting at 1:15 and Nancy Fischer seconded the motion.
